With a drumming style that embraces a unique blend of Jazz and Funk, Skip Walker prides himself on embracing all musical genres. He has recorded and performed with The Fatback Band, Israel Houghton, saxophonist Bubba Brooks, Saxophonist Ed Jackson (29th Street Saxophone Quartet), Trumpeter Ray Codrington (JFK Quintet), and many others. Born in North Carolina, Skip got his start when vibraphonist Malachi Sharpe took him under his wing at the age of 12 and began to give him drum lessons. By the age of 14, Skip was playing in clubs around the Carolinas, and just three years later at the age of seventeen, drummer/band leader Bill Curtis of the legendary New York funk group “The Fatback Band” invited Skip to New York to hold down the drum chair. Skip would do several European tours with Fatback before getting the itch to further his education. Skip then journeyed to Boston’s prestigious Berklee College of Music where he won the Leonard Feather Scholarship award, studied with renowned drummers Ed Uribe and John Ramsay, and earned a bachelors degree in just three years.
Skip is currently in the studio with his Jazz/Funk band entitled "Macrorhythm" finishing up his first CD as a bandleader. The project will feature Guitarist Joe Lindsay (Calvin Richardson, K-Ci and JoJo), veteran jazz trumpeter Ray Codrington (JFK Quintet, Eddie Harris), Pianist Elmer Gibson (Norman Connors), Saxophonist Mike Wallace, and many others. Skip is also a doctoral student at Boston University and a music professor at Methodist University in North Carolina.

DC California Drums
“My friend Tony Graci, introduced me to DC California drums and I fell in love with them instantly. The Toms sing beautifully with a warm tone and the look is incredible. My search for the perfect kit has ended. I am proud to be an endorser of these drums and I look forward to being instrumental in making “DC California” a household name.”
